Texas - Houston-based webhost company, BounceWeb, took another step towards offsetting its carbon footprint by supporting the production of 6,000 kilowatt-hours of renewable energy through a Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) purchase.

"There is no way a company can function ethically in today's world without contributing to the betterment of our environment," said BounceWeb's Sales and Support Manager, James Willit. "This is just one step for us in our goal of achieving a zero carbon footprint and a greener, healthier planet."

Last month's REC purchase by BounceWeb is the equivalent of the small company eliminating 9,414 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions from our atmosphere. Some estimates peg the global environmental impact of the IT industry at between 3 and 4 per cent of the world's electricity usage indicating a massive environmental toll for the industry. "If more companies like ours got behind this type of initiative, a lot of good would come of it," said Willit.

BounceWeb chose to partner with one of the nation's leading renewable energy and carbon offsetting companies, 3Degrees (www.3degreesinc.com), to reach their carbon offset goals. Since 2002, 3Degrees has helped more than 150 companies internationally create substantial emission reducing policies. "3Degrees congratulates BounceWeb for their environmental initiatives to reduce their carbon footprint," said Steve McDougal, Executive Vice President of 3Degrees. "We are thrilled to partner with BounceWeb, recognizing that reducing carbon is as much a business concern as an environmental one."

Bounceweb, a provider of shared and reseller Web hosting solutions, announced today it has reached an important service performance milestone—complete network uptime for ten consecutive months, and counting.

The benchmark, which has been independently verified by WebHostingStuff.com, represents a rare feat not usually accomplished by many providers in the hosting industry. According to WebHostingStuff.com, Bounceweb has had three minutes of network downtime since November, 2006, and no downtime since January of this year. Downtime is traditionally referred to as time when the company’s network is not responsive to outside requests.

"We take the performance of our network very seriously, and go the extra mile to make sure our service stands up to this kind of evaluation. We recognize that everybody is watching, especially our customers," said James Willit, Bounceweb Support Manager. "It’s a validation of our efforts and infrastructure investments to be making an announcement like this, without even a minute of downtime after nearly 10 months. Our performance reflects our values."

Bounceweb’s network includes a capacity of 10GBPS, spread across several backbone providers — Time Warner, Verio, Savvis, Allegiance, and Cogent. The company locates serves in a fully-equipped, state of the art Dallas, Texas datacenter facility. The facility offers full redundancy and security for servers.
